Midway through a summers day
a storm began to brew,
and great forces beyond man's control
began to merge, and grew.

* * * * * * * *

It started as a gentle breeze
and gradually it strengthened,
and shadows cast upon the land
began to slowly lengthen.

A surging, seething, mass of clouds
blots out the noon-time sun,
and thunderheads, miles high
begin their shore-bound run.

Birds take flight and dart about
seeking some place safe and warm,
and boats sail into harbour bays
to take refuge from the storm.

Lightning cracks, like giant whips
and splits the blackened skies,
and searing, blinding, white-hot light
is etched in to the eyes.

Thunder roll across the skies
a sound like big bass drums,
and rain slams down on old tin roofs
as though fired out of guns.

Water cascades from the clouds
and streaks the storm-cooled air,
and biting winds scream their song
a sound of pure despair.

Storm-tossed waves lash ocean shores
awesome in their might,
and hailstones strip all things bare
and blankets all things white.

Swollen rivers burst their banks
the water, turgid brown,
and trees succumbing to greater forces
are uprooted from the ground.

The streets awash in waters deep
submerged beneath the flood,
while fields of earth all freshly ploughed
are all turned into mud.

But soon the storm decreases strength
the rains begin to ease,
the wind becomes the softest kiss
that barely stirs the leaves.

The storm abates, the sun bursts through
its rays warm all the land,
the sea dies down, the waves subside
and ebbs gently from the sand.

The clouds have gone, the winds have died
there's a crisp, sharp, earthy smell,
and overhead a rainbow shines
- a sign that all is well.

A solid body of words. I like it.
