Lighting the cold and gray halls,

Lustrous paintings hang all in place,
Side by side leaving little space,

Floors of tile lay straight and cold,
Show their age from days of old,

As you walk on through this path,
You feel the chill of the bitter wrath,

For at the end of this long and dingy hall,
Lies a story that will indeed reveal all,

He returned home unexpectedly that day,
Finding only his entire life changed to his dismay,

His beloved lay nude upon their bed with another,
Tore at his very soul to discover that it was his own brother,

Ranting and raving he screamed and he yelled,
With his sword on his side with his hand he held,

He drew out his sword and he held it high,
As he disclaimed to his brother This day you shall die,

With not a second did he waste,
As he drove the sword deep into his brothers waist,

Hurriedly he pulled out the sword dripping with blood,
Drove it into his brothers heart as deep as he could,

He stood and watched as he began to fall,
Suddenly he noticed the movement of a shadow on the wall,

He turned as his beloved tried to escape,
Grasping the front of her full length cape,

From there he drug her to the stairs leading below,
Down to the dark and grim gallows,

Feeling as though no man had ever been more betrayed,
Told his beloved he was sending her also to her grave,

He strapped her hands tightly to the guillotine,
Crying, why did you do this my beloved Christine?

I shall never forgive you nor shall I ever forget,
What a price you must pay for this debt,

The darkness that fell upon him that horrid eve,
The pain that he suffered being deceived,

His hands trembled as he released the blade,
There upon the floor his beloved s head laid,

He fell to his knees he cried Oh God what have I done?
Let me not live another moment nor see another sun,

Pass from me my treacherous soul
For never again will I ever be whole,

I am nothing more he cried than a disgrace,
As the tears flowed down from his face,

Overwhelmed by anger in a desperate fit of rage,
Unable to accept what this night he had engaged,

Spare me no mercy inflict me with pain,
Oh God Almighty I am truly insane,

Upon the gallows wall hung a large dagger,
He tried to walk but could only stagger,

He retched for it, lifting it down,
Made neither a whimper nor a sound,

Placed the blade on the left side of his chest,
His face showed that his emotions were repressed.

Not another word came from his lips,
With both hands the dagger he grips,

With one powerful thrust the dagger enters deep,
He falls to the floor in eternal sleep.

WOW, this made me shiver,
a well written verse on the darkside of love and betrayal...... Well done, this kept me on the edge of my seat!
