*~~**~~*
Deep in the silence of the night
I know not what woke me, greeted thus by the moon
Only that all fears fled as I reached out for you
Your skin, cool to the touch, above the covers we share
Without pretense, without fail, I find my way, back to you
For it’s this that binds me here to the earth, this magic
All things good and bright, more so than the moon outside
All these things and countless more that tie me to you
Lost to sleep, you lay so very still, without want or worry
Save for the rhythmic gentle rise and fall of breath
Carved in living marble, held immortal in these dark hours
And I wonder…could we two have escaped this fate?
For I had stolen you in your prime, selfish and more
Silent tears well and trickle from now closed eyes
Behind which I mourn for all this has cost you
Still…I trace the memory of your flesh in my mind
Yet, where tears have trekked, they do not fall
Caught instead, by the warmth of your raised hand
And when I open my eyes filled with grief and wanting
It is to meet yours, dark and steady, and oh so sure
You bind me, My Beloved…my one true love.

My dear dawn, how I ADORE that author's note. So much truth.
This reads to me like a medieval novel (or one set in that time). I love the feel
of it and the promise of something that cannot, WILL not be denied, no matter what
sacrifices either is willing to make. It almost feels like a dream. You write with such
beauty and maturity that it makes me want to fall into your very words, if only to
selfishly share a small portion of that which you describe so magnificently.
The heart does not discriminate, nor does it choose. It simply responds.
Beautifully written, hun. I really love this one.

This has sort of a Shakespearean feel to it.
Behind which I mourn for all this has cost you
Still…I trace the memory of your flesh in my mind
Almost as if Romeo is speaking of Juliet.
IMPRESSIVE!!!! |

This was severe in its emotion. I have been in this kind of euphoric torture. And you wrote of it with such beauty, wisdom and depth. I am, in all admiration, stunned by your brilliance in caging the emotion of a moment like this and placing it within your words. Your reader has no choice but to bow to its power. Exceptionally and exquisitely written. This is so emotive, but gently so. Thank you for sharing it.
