I read one of his poems and while thinking about his poem I thought of this one
I thank you for the great poem I got to read and I thank you for inspiring me
Humanity needs a wake up call
Not to just one of us, worldwide to us all
We are destroying our planet
The one we inhabit
But who will be the one
To revolutionize and have it begun
Who will issue this wake up call?
And will they listen
Or can they not hear
Our end is near
Can they not see?
What they are doing
To themselves
Polluting their own sky
Surely humanities unwillingness to change
Will cause us to die
And why?
We fear change
Everything has to be the same
Changing tradition is insane
Well, I like breathing how about you?
So tell me what will we do?
To save this planet from us all
Who will issue humanities wake up call?

This poem was inspired by Tanman

| wow I'm glad I inspired such a great poem on such an important topic. Its true though when will we wake up and realize what we've done and issue a change in our ways. |

You and Tanman both wrote on a very good topic, this is well written and is a good message. I do agree, we all need to wake up to many things these day.

Hi Kelly,
you've tackled this issue well and in a very poetic way. And while it is true there are those that care
nothing for the environment and the damage that we, as humans are doing, there have been a great
many achievements in the last decade or so. Even the last TWO. When I was a teenager, we threw out
EVERYTHING (and I mean everything). We had no information on what it was doing. Also, there was
very little (if any) composting going on. Every day there is new legislation for factories and businesses
that emit harmful toxins into the air. They've constructed and are selling hybrid cars (though I'd really
love to see the price come down just a tad). Recycle companies are almost everywhere now it seems and
in the grocery stores you can find a large supply of "green" products, though there are a lot of everyday
harmless household products that can be used. (vinegar for glass, baking soda for pots and sinks and porcelain).
Okay, sorry to rant on your piece, but I found I just couldn't hold back on this one. It's true there is still
enormous work for us to save our Earth for future generations, but I feel so much has already been
accomplished and every generation does that much more. I have faith that humans will accomplish it. I
believe many have already experienced the "wake up call" as you say.

i love your poem, but i do not have an answer, i do what i am able to; to be kind to the earth and its animal and human inhabitants, but i am just one, one person, one voice, even if all poets world wide camped our at heads of state and governments would they shoot us or listen? and even if they did listen, would it be to pasify us? or really make a change? woodstocks 40th anniversary is now, so i suggest it is a good time for something
