Behind These Walls

Topic: toughstuff

As I sit on this throne
I can hear the distant war.
People calling my name
As I shut the door.

Behind these walls words cannot hurt me.

I order the gates locked
To bar people from entering.
They won't set foot on my land again
They bring only suffering.

Behind these walls I am pain free.

I tend to my wounds
With rage in my eyes.
I wish upon my attackers
A timely demise.

Behind these walls healing can start.

My enemy could not break through my defences
So no marks on my chest you will find.
It was the people I called my friends
Who struck me from behind.

Behind these walls I guard my heart.

I dismiss my advisors
Who attempt to lead me outside.
I now trust no one
So no longer are they needed at my side.

Behind these walls I'm on my own.

Though lonely I am
In these empty halls.
No one can hurt me
Behind these walls.

Behind these walls I stand alone.

I find myself limping
Towards the closed gate.
Once again heading towards
The world is so hate.

Behind these walls I cannot stay.

I know I get hurt
Every time I leave my sanctuary.
I forgive and forget
And all my past hate I bury.

Behind these walls I won't waste another day.

really nice read. One of the few that are actually god when they exceed a certain length. I like the format.

Very good. It stayed on subject, it kept a whole thought throughout, it was really good. I loved the concept of it, it painted a vivid picture. Well done.
