that fatal call, that we did not want.
They said it was to be no more.
The phone goes dead,
an empty space, between me and them.

While travelling down, all is silent,
expectation that they got it wrong.
What they say, no! It cant be right..

On arrival we wander through the corridors,
miles it seemed...... up a floor to the end,
down a long dark corridor, where.....
at the end is a light,

Were shown in to a room,
pale I colour like the faces of others sitting there..
slight smiles as we are asked to wait a moment.
Waiting, Avoiding, 'NO' this cant be right,
this is not happening...

We are guided like ghosts in to along room,
they explain what things are not to be scared,
Does any one really understand or hear what they say?
The door opens........

Is this really the person to whom we were laughing with
weeks before....kept alive by machines.
How can these things happen so suddenly...
One moment there, the next just a vessel,
for the soul has gone, no need for this body.

Its time they say, time to switch off,
time to say good bye..............
but,
How do you say goodbye when there's no one there?
Best to remember the soul that we loved,
not this vessel which we see, so pale,
empty, and lifeless,
so pointless.
