There is no peace in pain
When all you can feel
Is the darkness—
Flowing like chaos through veins
That lead to the shadows of heartache,
Where the stories of the past are told—
The ones that are rotting
In spiteful regret
In the prison
Of your guilt
In your soul.

Serenity is only a taunting wish
When your soul is lost in the woods—
While you crawl and you search
Through the mud of your sorrow
For the place where your peace
Last stood.
The ground has its thorns
That tear apart your flesh,
Like you’re something this life
Has despised,
And your scream is the thunder
Of misery’s heartache
And its pain
Is the lightning
In your eyes.

Fear has no pity on your weakened soul
And doubt has no conscience to care,
So sorrow just laughs like a raging beast
Whipping you
With its whip of despair.
It’s too dark to see where you’re going,
And hope’s a million miles too far.
You’ve been beaten,
Mocked,
Torn apart…
You collapse in the mud, where you are.

“The battle is hard for my soul,”
You say—
You whisper through your tears.
“No more strength have I,”
You cry, you pray
Through the pounding anguish of fears.
“What more can I do?”
You ask from within
Your haunting woods of a soul,
“No more strength have I
To claim
To know
To have
This life
To hold.”

The ticking of time is a haunting echo,
While your soul is down and weak.
But your heart keeps on beating
Since your soul says its needing
To live through the sorrow so bleak.

So you breathe through the anguish of tears and fears
Shouting,
"No more strength, have I!"
And you shake as you rise,
Yes, you tremble inside
But you refuse--
You Refuse...!
TO DIE!

These woods feel like prison
So deep in your soul,
But you're not chained
To its troubled ground,
So you rise, And You Rise
Until you find yourself standing,
And the strength in your soul has been found.

One step forward, you take
One step at a time,
For sorrow is not your fate.
Strength is within
The weak, weary soul
That takes one step forward
With faith.

After reading your comment, I thought this poem would be massively long and it wasn't. It was actually the perfect length. The flow and structure were remarkable.

I think you encompassed our humanity, pitfalls, struggles and most importantly finished with hope. Inspiration is a powerful poetry tool.

Very well done.
