Array ( [sid] => 149932 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => DEADLY DIABETES [time] => 2009-05-16 21:31:46 [hometext] => I'm so happy to be back among all my wonderful poetry friends. It's been two whole years since I got diabetes. I'm now 72, and feel like brand new! [bodytext] =>
DEADLY DIABETES

Gnarled branches of a dead tree.....
Diabetes is deadly you're n'er set free
The only disease that affects every
single body cell......
In the blood, your "Life-Source,"
ready to rebel.

Like the tree shown above..........
Temperatures, water, soil, and
stress without caring love,
Diabetes is constantly there....
working it's havoc in each cell,
everywhere!"

Two types of diabetes I was taught,
With "Type 1," a pancreas is sought
No insulin available at all,
Unfortunately it usually hits the small.

"Type 11," attacks the older person.
Our pancreas is fine, but our cells won't open.
Medication needed to unlock cells so
glucose can enter..........
Once carbohydrates are no longer
blocked, you feel alive and "chipper."

Diligence is needed at all times
for the diabetic.
A test must be done regularly
to keep the blood slick, so it can
run easily.........
Like thick honey it can become,
clogging arteries and
heart attacks in some.

Being a diabetic is all in one's attitude,
Like so many others things in life,
educate, and conclude..........
It takes no "Will Power", just a
choice each day.
"Do I chose to live, or do
I chose to die today?

IT'S ALL UP TO YOU!

A three legged stool for you
to sit upon takes much balance,
Very simple, takes little brilliance.
Exercise is a must indeed!
A wholesome diet, medication,
and plenty of rest, and a
diabetic is freed!

No need to freeze your dreams
or put them on hold,
Diabetics are quarterbacks, skiiers,
dancers, runners, all courageous,
all bold!
I look upon my diabetes as a
constant challenge to be
conquered.
Making it my friend, and not my foe,
a wonderment to be analyzed,
a joy pondered!

What a well-written piece of writing depicting your struggle with such a serious illness. I personally can relate to your poem; I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant and had to be very careful in my diet and test my blood sugar after every meal. My experience with it was only temporary though, so I am was not going througheven half of what you are right now! Your poem also delivers a positive message at the end! Great job!

oh my gosh, it's SOOOOOOO incredibly wonderful to see you back and POSTING!!!

*does happy dance*

Hun, we've been worried about you! And what a wonderful piece you've graced us with. And as usual
you've turned something negative into something positive. You have such a wonderful knack for doing
that. You are an inspiration to us all. I ADORE the last stanza. Such sage advice, but I would expect
nothing less from you, dear friend. It's brilliant to have you back here. ^_^

*hugs you tight*

many smiles to you ~

~ Breezy
