the frequency of our species
now in the wake of it –
The Age of Enlightenment
of liberal and passionate debate
and we few shake our heads
fallen into another valley
wallowing in the mud of conservatism
too bright; Utopia to young eyes
too rich is the flavour of hope

No, we are immature
the short wavelengths
the high amplitude
Chaotic and Fearful
hands placed over eyes

Far from controlling our waves
crashing against our coast
we meander away from it –
The Age of Enlightenment
of a sense of something better
for we know the face of war
techniques of suppress;
it is all now an art form
comfortable in familiarity
as terrible as it is.
