You were there
Sitting beside me
Trying to console me

I laughed
You were there
Jumping around me
And laughing with me

I was sick
You were there
Laying beside me
Looking after me

I woke up
You were there
Smiling at me
Saying good morning to me

I slept
You were there
Sleeping next to me
And protecting me

I went out
You were there
Walking next to me
Making sure no one hurt me

I needed a friend, you were there
I needed to talk, you were there
I needed to cry, you were there
I needed to laugh, you were there
You were always there
Like a best friend would be

You cried
I was there
Sitting with you
Trying to comfort you

You was ill
I was there
Right next to you
Feeding medicine to you

You slept
I was there
Looking at you
Trying not to wake you

You died
I was there
Crying for you
Shouting, screaming, 'wake up you!'

I cried
You weren't there
Sitting beside me

This literally brought tears to my eyes. I'm so sorry for your loss. I know that losing
a pet is a tragedy that just breaks the heart. The loyalty of our pets and the joy they
bring into our lives makes it very hard to cope with their death. They are more
than a friend, a confidant, a family member. You said it best in your piece. They are
always there, regardless. Always with a happy step and a friendly nudge for us.

I love the ending. It's heartbreaking, but it is perfect. You've managed
through your grief, to exact the emotions we feel, completely.

Well done!

~ Breezy

Reminds me of when we lost our Domino. He had a habit of resting his head on my lap and looking at me with his huge brown eyes ... I miss that. Sad write, filled with emotion that touches the reader.

This is a really beautiful poem. I had to put my dog down last month and when my parents came home without her, I couldn't stop crying. I even cried myself to sleep because I missed her so. I hope the good memories of your dog comfort you

Oh this is touching... Thank you for sharing this... Until I read this poem, I couldnt remember how I felt when I lost my best friend after a hit and run... She was a good dog, just like yours... Keep those memories close to heart and your dog will always be close to your heart :)

Take care
