Array ( [sid] => 149186 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => ~The Lady on the Street~ [time] => 2009-04-17 01:57:41 [hometext] => This is not a super poem more story about a woman today I saw and something another woman said to her, I was livid, people were mean everywhere today, hard day sighhhhhhh [bodytext] => Life is a fragile thing at times.
Specially of late, unemployment high,
spirits of people low, here.... everywhere you go.
You just never know, do you?

We rode around on the c tran today
allover the city,
looking for work, trying to get feet beneath us
striving to find beauty in the warmth of the sun..
Spring blossoms everywhere, but still.

We left the bus and on the street
there was a woman, with a card board square
Need help, need money for food,
written bold and clear.

A woman who had been on the bus with us
was walking in front, and what she said
stopped my heart, for seconds inside my chest.
She boldly retorted so ignorant to this woman......
Do you pay taxes on that money?

I felt my pulse surge and my anger flair
and for a brief moment I wanted to slap her,
this ugly woman picking on someone so helpless
but instead I turned and said ignore that mean woman.

My heart sunk when I looked her in the eyes
and saw the fear, and pain burning deep from within.
I felt sad with her, how dare another kick someone when they are down?
Words eluded me, and every emotion ran through the fiber of my being.

All day I saw people at their worst,
ignorant remarks, pompous beings.
Not just to us but to strangers alike
and I thought to myself, "the toilet bowl day for sure"

I am sure, I will see that mean woman tomorrow
and once my anger is put into prospective,
she shall hear the voice of Michelle, Load and CLear
and it will ring through the streets, and ride the buses.

How dare you judge another until you walk a day in their shoes?
In our shoes?

Then I will look right into her eyes and ask, are you a christian? See if I get a reply
and then tell her, she is not acting in Christ like manner, with cruel words and dirty looks.
Being the bold woman I am if she responds with an answer of yes(we know she will not)
I will then retort well lady I would like to talk to your pastor or priest and have him call you in for a private session!
Because quite frankly, you just do not get the teachings of Jesus nor God!

Note: sorry all I am still mad as hell about her and the entire day. I call it the day of toilet bowl! Blahhhhhhhh
It is hard to not let people like her get to you when you see it right where you are standing. So hurtful and cruel!

Even though you are angry, this made me smile. What made me smile is that ***** will suffer the wrath of Michelle!!! Kick-ass, Michelle!!!

You definitely conveyed the emotion you were feeling in this one.

What is wrong with people?

How true you are. Everyone is going through the same mess and they cant show just a little compassion on their fellow man. And you are right by saying that it isnt very Christ-like indeed. but we all have been guilty of it at one time or another. All we can do is strive to not make the same mistakes twice. Great write my friend. Very well done.

My son is homeless. He is on disability but it is not enough after child support and meals to ever pay 1st, last and a month's rent... he cannot even afford to eat towards the end of the month and goes to a soup kitchen. He is neither a drug addict nor a bum. Due to personal circumstances he prefers homelessness to living with us and I don't blame him. People are unkind to him too sometimes. kick ass and I'll be right there with you! Some people right here are puffed up and
self-righteous.

One of the many qualities that impresses me upon reading your poetry - is your empathy. Your heart is tough and tender. You care for everything from nature to friendships to total strangers.

After reading your poem, I thought---how do we know that lady wasn't an angel? Someone sent from above to report on the kindness of humans? Let's hope that isn't so, for many failed today.

I'm going to say a prayer for that lady, that on the hairspin of a dime, her life could get better. All of us could be where she is.

Thank you so much for this one. You touched my heart.
