[bodytext] => Firestorm – A poem by Peter Rowe – 20/02/2009 We sat and watched for days, Visions that made us choke, Victoria was ablaze, It bought tears to the toughest blokes. Black remains and lives destroyed, Houses burnt to the ground, Cars melted where they stood, No longer make a sound. History’s gone in the blink of an eye, Generations burnt, So many people should not have died, How many lessons learnt? A baby cries out, its mother’s gone, Left alone and scared, She never had time to get out, She had no choice, she fled. We’ve not seen anything like it, Let’s hope to God we never do, Our country’s been to hell and back, I know I cried, how about you? Scars take time to heal, The blackened land will too, Loved ones who’ve perished, Cherished memories to me and you. Like many Aussies before them, They’ll start all over again, Pick up their shattered lives, And slowly they’ll begin. God please don’t let us forget them, When the headlines have faded away, Keep their tears and stories in out hearts For eternity from this day.
