Herein these pages lie such worlds
hewn from woods that cradle life itself;
tread carefully the paths that will unfurl
adventure waits on each and every shelf.

Open! and spy the stuff of dreams
where reality is never as it seems
with heroes sometimes darker than the beast
and hungers mad from never being released;
serpents too, that coil in their rest
around treasures only won through trials and quest.

love sleeps here, in ancient binding spells
where star-crossed lovers hunger for each kiss;
and misery in its company also dwells
while lonely hearts yearn for what they miss.

Delve onwards, through chapters and their verse
along plots that meander and transverse;
encounter puzzles of such cunning design,
and riddles pondered through all time
yielding insights so clear they seem absurd
and mystery dwells in every living word.
friendships grow, from tiny happenstance
and alliances, forged in battle’s heat,
roar across the plains of circumstance
to curl exhausted at fair maidens’ feet.

Herein, stories for your pleasure
to seize the gaze in wondrous delight;
enjoy, in no small measure
and hold at bay the shadows of the night.

Okay, okay, I'll put the remote down but come Monday, I'm at least picking it back up for 24! ;-)

As usual, another great poem from the pen (or is it a pencil) of Spike. So, now that you have enticed us in, may we now look through your bookshelves?

Take care,

Tim

My dear Spike, I've often said that I would love to have been born in a book and live
there for all eternity. There, time and space are an illusion, (kinda like the Matrix--haha).

Your piece fills the reader with the desire to jump inside a story and live the wonder
and surprise that awaits. Television is over-rated. Always has been. Books are where
the real stories are. I love this piece. You have reminded us that we can do whatever
we want; be, whatever we want...in books. They hold a wealth of information,
opportunity and entertainment.

Excellent post. The rhyme and metre are perfect but it is the wording and message
behind them that makes this piece so fabulous.

Kudos poet!

~ Breezy

Now I remember how humbling my experiences in the past reading your work. Spike, this is manuscript work. Like, hey, send me a collection - well I guess I can just stay on ypdc 'til I've read all yer stuff that ya post But still, I'd sure like one of your "booklets" of Wonder. Be safe, God's speed 'n' have fun!
