Death in the air, the desert sand all in my hair,
Convoy down the MSR, RPGs and IED alarms,
Watching the people walking around, not sure which has the rounds?

Everyday when I awake, I thank the Lord I made it another day,
As night falls, I have to wonder if the mortars will fall,
I lie in bed replaying my entire life in my head,
I wonder if the things I did in the past will finally fade at last,

Every time I leave the wire, if I told you I wasn't scared I'd be a lair,
My next mission could be my last, but I still put on my soldier's mask,
The face of war is ugly and cold, all I have is this picture to hold,
It's like I'm walking on eggshells, cursed by my enemy to rot in hell,

Everyday I carry on, I'm lonely inside but must remain strong,
I walk a fine line between life and death, never knowing if I've taken my last breath,
It's a hard life being a soldier, always carrying freedom on my shoulders,
But it's a burden I accept, I serve my country with no regrets.

Forever Faithful
The Phantom

I know words aren't much but I sincerely appreciate what you guys are doing over there.

This poem conveys so much emotion and am honestly sorry you or any of you...anyone for that matter, has to go through that. Yet again, I am very thankful for all of our soldiers.

Take care,

wabl

Tim

Some people refuse to look...to see what the cost of freedom is. You point it out here, very elegantly, in this piece. So, thank you, both for the fine poetry and for standing for freedom for all, even when most don't thank you for it. You keep doing what you're doing and we'll keep praying for you.

Be well,
~dawn

You have given many people around the world an insight into what brave soldiers endure. You have put into words what many people don't have any idea what you go through. I wish you luck, and keep on writing, it conveys your story to everyone. Great write
