It creeps by first light of morn, covering up the light of sun.
It comes in smart disguises, most people cannot see.
It happens more often than not but most do no hear its plea.

If you listen, it is the cry of the silent heart.

It is words that sting and linger, leaving a wave upon its wake.
It is late night screams and yelling, that drowns the music in the night.
It is a bruise or broken bone, most times it goes undiscovered.
It is a forced and taken thing instead of making love under the covers.

If you listen, it is the cry of the silent heart.

It is the tiny children, scared of what will happen next.
Laying still under the covers but the monsters lives in the house.
It is the stigma with alcohol tainted with a few drugs
that turns the best of people into abusers, and hateful thugs.

If you listen, it is the cry of the silent heart.

It is the woman who wants to tell her story to her best friend.
It is the fear of not knowing, if she tells if anyone will listen.
It is the police who walk away, with a I am sorry there is nothing I can do.
The choke marks around your neck do not constitute a bruise.

If you listen, it is the cry of the silent heart.

It is the sounds of sirens, screaming in the night.
Neighbors all knowing for a long time, something next door wasn't right.
Now the moment has come, it is now to late.
No one heard the cry of the silent heart, she will take it to her grave. Sweetie, this is a very sad and mournful write. There is much truth to be found in this, as
it penetrates to the core and breaks the readers heart. Such a sadness when tragic things
that go on, (and continue to), do so with a silent heart. There is a sullen, almost silent,
but audible whisper within your words. And it fills the page with a sorrow that almost
consumes us.

I like to think, there is always hope. Your message is clear and wise, hun.

*hugs*

~ Breezy

...if you listen...

Shell, this was heart-breaking and so sad. Worse, it is truth. I sometimes think that if people DID stop and listen more, if they didn't hide their eyes, or turn their heads, if they stopped things instead of ignoring them, said things, instead of remaining silent that maybe the cry of the silent heart wouldn't be a billion strong. Maybe, with reading this lovely poem, others will stop to think of the truths, on the reality and choose to do more. You wove a story that many live. It was brave and loving. I know that I will listen.

Love,
~dawn

*sigh*

Yep, key words there "if you listen".... and unfortunately sometimes, there are those that don't listen until it's too late. An excellent poem and story about abuse.

As heart wrenching and sad as it is...there is alot of truth in the words that you have penned here. In fact you did an amazing job.

This chilled me. I know of this silent heart... It weeps quietly within me. A very poignant piece, my dear shelby. I am sorry I have been away from your page for so long... Time.. hasn't really been on my side as of late. I'm glad to drink your words again, no matter how bitter the taste. There is beauty in destruction... as long as the writer can convey it. You do it wonderfully. The truth in this write burrows deep into veins, and infects everything. This needs to be read by all. Thank you for sharing with us, ma amie. As always, your talent shines brightly. *hugs* good to see you.

With love,

~Stephy.
