It is hard to comprehend the tall and shifty load.
The Oklahoma ice storm, being stuck out on the road
Windstorms, and hurricanes, bad weather as she blows.

Then a truckers story at times is all the same.
We have a special love affair with the trucks that we name.
They are a companion, big strong and chromed with steel
and we are but the captain at the mighty wheel.

I called her Red Bonnet and knew she too was a "girl"
and she kept us safe in our travels,
paired with our nerves of steel.
When we walked away and left her in the rain
I felt a pain inside of me, and I will say it once again.......

Two weeks have now passed and I wonder where she is now.
Is she being taken care of or is she sitting quit and still?
I think of the dangerous moments and the ones filled with glee
the Hamlin four and Red Bonnet, crusin sea to shining sea.

All the truckers know, and understand this well.
A truck is not just a truck in fact it is a pal.
When you live in it or ride in it and your living depends on it
you come to be a family, with the 18 wheels indeed.

So the roads are all out there, the pavement still goes where it goes.
Red Bonnet and the Hamlin four are now no more.
I will always think about her and maybe one day I may see
my big red truck Red Bonnet crusin down some highway past me.

Late at night in between the city noise in between sleep and twilight
I swear I feel her vibration beneath me then I stir and realize
I do not feel her for real and I do not hear.....
The sound of her whispers lightly, but now a ghost in my ears.

So it is the end of the line, memories only remain
and the concretecowgirl and red bonnet are not not one in the same
a merge of two girls, out on the open interestate
it is over now, end of the line now to late.

Goodbye Red Bonnet wherever it is you are......

the last ride
over and out
10-4

I know how it feels to lose something that you hold dear and depended on. You did a beautiful job in writing this as always. Yes it is sad but who knows maybe you and Red Bonnet will meet again one day and once more you will be where you belong....back on the road together...cruising sea to shining sea.

OMG Michelle, I cannot even remember what I was originally going to say because when I read those last lines the last ride over and out 10-4 I literally blurted out loud that was just magnificent!!!!

This just took me in and I could not stop reading. You captivated me with your story and made me seem to come along with your ride and the experiences.

*sigh*

I know you miss her and I really wish I could help you guys out.

All of you please take care!!!!

Tim
