and loosing pretty badly
Torpedoed, blitzed and slain
Then came December seven
"a day of infamy"
and we knew again together
we would have victory
The European theatre
was not your main concern
You had another war to fight
another way to turn
Yet in this situation
you acted just the same
you mobilised your nation
and in '42 you came
Side by side in Europe
Korea and in Burma
we fought the common enemies
our friendship never firmer
The debt of gratitude to you
we can never quite repay
we've stood together in the past
and so we stand today

This poem touched me, my grandfather fought in WW II, and I'm in the Army now this poem is a beauitiful friendship put into words, My God this is a work of art.

to say these words of friendship past
reminds of that our bond will last
some countries, like France
forget these truths
Sit idly by
and sabotage our troops
but you remember the pact stills stands
lets fight and have peace together

TP, My father told me of the relief in the trenches in 1917 when they heard "The Yanks were comming"
We lived on Meryside and endured the blitzes of Sept '40 and March '41. We were also losind 20- -30 ships out of every convoy
we were back on our heels
We were losing the war.
I can't describe the feeling that swept the country when once again "The Yanks were comming"
Many people who were not even born in those days can never understand. |

Wrybod, you write well and I appreciate you putting it on the site at this time. It makes me feel so good to hear something besides criticism of the US. Of course, I'm disappointed by the many faults within our society, but we are just human. I often thought, when the young people were being judged so worthless, that they would rise to the occassion when a crisis called. The Uk has been and is a true friend. Thank you.

I'm not used to quite so many comments. I thought I had replied to yours but I must have pressed the wrong button
If we had stood up to Hitler in the thirty's think how many lives might have been saved.
The thing we remember most about the "Yanks" is in both WWI and WW II you did not HAVE to come to Europe at all. Yet you came.
