And Americans again met it with grace,
People flocked to watch history pass,
Not just blacks and whites ~ Multi class,
TV’s were on in schools and in homes,
This day did not stand alone,
For those who believe tears were shed,
There were skeptics ~ And there was dread,
Yet, all stood together locked arm-in-arm,
A page in history turned with charm,
Bitter cold and still the people came,
Smiles and tears came from one and the same,
Once called “”Colored” ~ “Negro“ ~ Then “Black”,
The older the memory ~ The sweeter ~ This Act,
His hand lay softly on the Bible Abe read,
As he took the oath ~ He meant what he said,
As the oath was given and not exactly right,
So it was given again in the middle of the night
“I have a dream” was answered this day,
And King was remembered ~ Honored displayed,
A President now stood before a massive crowd,
And yet, silence and reverence made not a sound,
The world watched this man take his place,
As the 44th President ~ And they trusted his face,
Aretha Franklin ~ The Queen of Soul,
Lent her voice to the Inaugural show,
As America’s new President spoke to the world,
A hush was evident ~ As each word was unfurled,
His words fell together ~ Like water to the falls,
Presidential and eloquent ~ Young , strong and tall.
~~~~
Still the beauty of this day lay in younger hands,
Two delightful little girls who had no plans,
Other than holding hands and making bouncing a fad,
All they care about ~ Is the man they call, “Dad.” [comments] => 3 [counter] => 320 [topic] => 41 [informant] => tifrob [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => political )
i think you summed up everything that is fantastic about obama's election as the new president. the past, the present and the future in the hands of this man. good luck to him.
