Array ( [sid] => 147601 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => A Pillow To Cover My Face [time] => 2009-01-24 17:37:03 [hometext] => I was inspired to write this having returned from a holiday to dark days when Autumn held its grip on the world. On such days keeping warm by the fire is just so much more appealing, don't you agree? [bodytext] => Grey sky clings to the day
Slow moving ashen forms crawl over themselves
Linked as a barrier
Kindred keepers of deepening gloom

Shafts of light extinguished
Smothered by a blanket of infinite smog
Oppresive and brooding
Sunshine banished, the monarch overthrown

Flower stems bowed earthward
Puppets dancing at the whim of the wind
Tall trees now are shivering
Discarded leaves scarcely kissing the ground

Birds blown like paper
Wingbeats mismatched to the incoming swell
Wrapped figures walking
Breath of cold smoke funnels to sky

Fire roaring steadily
Soothes as a lullabye sung to a child
Whisps flick like kitten tails
Light giving warmth like a blanket alive

Why would I venture forth ?
Now as the evening air draws in the mist
Foreboding and choking
It seems like a pillow to cover my face [comments] => 8 [counter] => 354 [topic] => 27 [informant] => puppy_dog_eyes [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 10 [ratings] => 2 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => NaturePoetry )

Goodness...I got kind of lost in this. It has such mesmerizing imagery and beauty. In your 4th stanza, you talk of birds on the wind...I've often wondered on those days if it's a joy or a frustration. At any rate, I really enjoyed this piece. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Be well,
Loende

This my friend is excellent writing, some people have the ability to structure a poem but few have the talent to get the meaning across.
Look forward to more of your work.
