lily-blossom cute,
when I saw her that day,
the sunlight falling, falling
around her face,
dripping off of her hair,
and mixing with her aura,
gentle velvet-blue…

…she was beyond knowing,
deeper than my deepest dreams
of her, higher than
my highest hopes…

later, after splashing like a seal
in the cool white waters,
she smiled at me,
her hair dripping wet, once again…

…and there was something…
…something…
…so nostalgic, so familiar about her,
about that moment…

we danced together, in dizzy circles
on the tilt-a-whirl,
closer, closer,
never close enough…

…afraid of closeness,
more afraid to part…

…and that night,
back home again, in the city,
her eyes twinkled
with the star-drenched sky…

…so familiar, so deep,
her eyes…

…oh, peace! remember me
as I remember you…

~*~ ~*~ ~*~

Your face, so lovely
Is covered now with cold earth,
Crumbled and scattered
Where you lie in perpetual slumber –

-it your rest sweet,
Or a thing to be feared?

Is it sadness,
Is it angry-

Am I angry?

And why,
But if –

But because you let go,
Because you left
When you had so much
Left to do...

...when I had so much
Left to tell you.

~*~ ~*~ ~*~

When you…

…when she walked
Down into the water,
There was a sadness, and a calm,
As she sank beneath the pounding waves,
Certain it was her destiny,

And she did not struggle,
Did not cry out…

…only a single tear trickled down her cheek…

And I called out her name…

“…Peace! Peace!
Soft blue, velvet Peace…”

…but she could not,
Or would not
Turn around…

…only kept walking
Deeper into the sea
While I watched in anguish,
And wondered-knew
Why.
