Harsh edges poke at a soul no longer able to protect itself
Ringing in the new year appalling peals of joy
A downhill race to death and nothing more
When darkness suffocates all hope
Oh to be content by the hearth
Listening to a cat purr
But life is more of turmoil than contentment
And we ride until the end of the line
Wherever and whenever that might be

To me it seems that it paces itself without puctuation; I wish I could write poems such as these. I liked the ending; And I re-read it as the images didn't hit me the first time (I was half-asleep at the time). I think it was a great, dark discription of how you feel living life only brings us farther downhill, to a definite, yet uncertain end. Very nice =P.

a sufficient 'life sucks' piece to have me searching for the prozac, Merry - whatever you wish to capture, even human entropy, you do so beautifully.

I've missed your posts too often.

Happy New Year, anyway. I'll keep a glass half full till you feel ready to drink it.

Spike
