You run through my dreams now just every so often
Named by your mother and formed in my heart
A joy just to think you’re a gift that was given
No one could replace you; of us you’re a part
Amazed at how love could create such a person
The best of two people is what you would be
But truth is we know that you’d be your own person
Your heart would be tender, your spirit fly free
Ringlets of fire drape down past your shoulders
Caressed by the breeze as you play all the while
Now, sure, don’t you have the eyes of your nMathair*
They dance as they sparkle and oft make me smile
With small, pudgy fingers, you reach out to pat me
Soft on my nose, on my cheek and my chin
I know you would probably struggle at bedtime
Then lovingly yawn, as we’d tuck you in
Born of a thought of what could have been
A child without substance, and just fantasy
If time could go back if but for a moment
And fate let it happen, our daughter you’d be
