A reason to close.

Contributed by iodinelove on Monday, 24th November 2008 @ 08:48:42 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Trespass—in open doorways we speak of lost desires, lower our heads to sip our thoughts and fears, meet shoulder to shoulder, forget to kiss, and relinquish our hearts to endless stares more distant than the distant star trickling through the daylight.

There are moments in our lives that we cannot speak of, moments that serve only to conquer our dreams and subdue our strength, tormenting us with our own actions, causing us to fear the power of our own words.

Our hands are barren, taut, etched raucously with age and pain, besieged by time, no longer strong enough to seize the summit of their dreams, yet always they dream, always they remain open, suffering the weight of another year, longing for a reason to close.

It is in beauty that we find the greatest sorrow, and in tragedy that we find the nobility of our own hearts.

The third paragraph is really excellent, and the image of an open hand bearing the weight of another year, longing for a reason to close, extraordinary. I love it.

I'm kind of finding the last sentence in the poem puzzling, though... it's a solid one but seems unrelated to the rest of the piece.
