With time, I am dry eyed and sober sipping sprites and feelings that I had long ago declined. My soul sings the words and the meaning of the words are silent, my heart shatters at the force of its own rhythm, and my hands grasp at the keys, striving to contain the pieces of an agitated sky coming into the presence of a newly spoken sun, striving to sing also.

Time defeats us in that we are what we used to be, longing to be something more, our eyes are set to what is, our hearts to what could have been, and the flesh of our faces stretch to find the earth again.

Time defeats us all, but at the edge of its inward circle, we are laughter, spreading stars across the sky.

I read this last night but wanted to think about why it punched me in the gut. Maybe I can relate too easily with the idea that time does indeed defeat us all. It's so achingly familiar. And maybe having more than a decade on you, it's even more real...I'm not sure. You have so many beautiful descriptions here and there's not a damn thing that I can find fault with. Hopefully we can all stretch to find the earth again. Beautiful artistry, Abraham, just beautiful.

Be well,
Loende

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
