Array ( [sid] => 145371 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => You [time] => 2008-09-25 03:19:30 [hometext] => essay [bodytext] => Who am i? better yet, who are you? yes i know you are in fact the reader, the teacher. Those are merely labels, You being the reader doesn't make you who you are, never the less does being a teacher say who you are. Who am i? well im the writer, the student, but once again that has nothing to do with who i am. The world is made up of labels by which we can make sense of things. Through this essay i hope to maybe show at least one person there is more to you than meets the eye. You are not just randomly put on this earth to wonder around, you were delicately created to serve your own purpose in life, to discover who you are, not what you associate with yourself but who you are, your soul.
have you ever wondered how you can tell what something is just by making a few noises with your tongue and lips, that consonants produced by air pressure can explain who you are or what the purpose of life is? the truth is it can't. it would be impossible because our brains can not comprehend what we really are who what the world really is. Altho we try to comprehend it by giving things names, labels. For example a flower, if you take a flower and you hold it in your hands without any prior thoughts, without the label and just let it be in you're hand, what is it? it is a beautiful sign of love and peace. It doesn't try to be something else, it just is.
The problems with us humans, is we have a brain. We have a brain that keeps expanding. Throughout the ages we have created a universe. Our own little universe, made up of materiality, money ( which is materiality ), Styles, Economy, Nations and so forth. In doing so, making our own universe out of falsehoods, and materiality we have made a universe were we try to be something other than what we are. We try to keep up with styles so we can fit in, we created nations that separated the human race instead of uniting it, it gave us a reason to fight and have wars. We created money, now we are so busy trying to make a living we forget to the living part. Many people who have no idea who they are will tell you, their name, occupation, personal background, what their physical body looks like but to know yourself you have to go into your being, not your mind.
If you want to find who you are you have to get rid of the false you first. People usually get a false sense of self by associating themselves with an object. A guitar for instance, a musician if they lost their guitar they would say part of them is gone. when this happens you have to ask yourself the question " has part of Who you are been diminished by this loss?" . A guitar is replaceable, if you know who you are, then you can't feel diminished when you loose something close to you, because who you are is more than that. We live in a media based world, and growing up in this world the advertising industry knows that they have to try and make it that their products will "enhance" who you are. They do this by telling you that you will be different and be your own person if you use this product, and by standing out of the crowd you will be more fully yourself. Once again using the material world to make you who you are.
My suggestions on setting your mind free, is simple but yet can only be done if you feel that you need a change. It's not an easy thing and i have a feeling i will be working on setting my true self free for a very long time. When ever i start to feel down about myself, or how the world is going down. I think to myself, i create my own problems by thinking. There doesn't have to be a problem. When i feel like this i take myself and maybe my dog, down to somewhere secluded and beautiful were nothing in my world back home really matters, it all seems so incredibly small compared to this. This is what its about, not how you look, or how much money you have, or what nation i am in, because it's all the same. We created all these things that make the problems in the first place, they weren't always there in the beginning there was this, just outstanding vastness and beauty all around us. To put yourself out in that vastness it makes you feel really really tiny in the grand scheme of things, It basically puts you back in your place in the universe. The main thing in life, is you getting down to yourself to the point were you can live without suffering and without labels, and you can someday maybe relate to that flower, and just be.
