~~^~~
Hours after getting to bed,
I could not get this vision out of my head;
A little boy alone and so lost
His one thought, survival at any cost.
Seeking shelter during the day
From prying eyes, he must stay.
Looking for food during the night,
He prays to see the next sunlight.
Found after five days by his Dad
This lad of eight will never again be sad.
Suddenly his eyes are aglow
He was safe now in the arms of his hero.

Sad, happy, powerful, and awesome all put into a short poem about the little man's plight. A bit of a tear jerker, Jenni. I like it! Must have been some conversation. |

Oh my goodness Jenni. This almost wrecked me. Although I only had to read three stanzas to get to the end, I thought I was going to have an anxiety attack! Thank God he was found. Whew. Sorry, the subject stole the show. Great writing ;o).

You know when I began reading this I did not think I would like it. I kept reading and that last stanza touched me so much. You have no idea. My father (who I am currently not communicating with) once saved my life after I was caught in a current in a creek. I drown and I remember only seeing him run toward me from the shore then he was standing over me and I was spitting out water on the shore. My father is my hero. Though I have been disapointed in him many times he is my hero and when I was a child he was Super Man, Captain Kirk, Indiana Jones, George Washington, G.I. Joe, and Batman in one package. This poem touched me very deeply. Thank you for offering this for us to read, thank you for offering it so that I may read it.
Superb!

My daughters hero was her dad. He died when she was 14, she will always hold a torch for him no matter what. I found it difficult , as she tended to take her pent up anger out on me, but time being the healer has helped a lot. I now try to be both mum and hero, but I know I could never take his place. Wonderful poem Jenni.

Omigosh, Jenni! This was impossibly moving!!
I began to read this and wasn't sure I wanted to finish. So many
times you hear stories like this that end in tragedy, but this one
is a tear-jerker in that it turned out okay. That dad, whomever he
is, must have fallen to his knees in gratitude the moment he had his
boy back. I know I would have. I remember working the catalogue
counter at Sears one day, (a long time ago) and a little boy got
lost in the store. We put an announcement on the speaker for his
dad to come to the back and claim him. You should have seen the
look on his face when he came to the back and saw his son, (who, of
course was oblivious to the horror we parents go through when we
lose sight of our child at a department store). The emotion that came
over him could have melted the coldest heart. It was a mixture of
relief, frustration and elation. He hugged his boy and we all tried to
hold back tears. It was so damn emotional.
Anyway, sorry for the longwinded story on your piece. I just
wanted you to know how much I relate to your sleeplessness.
Wonderful post, hun! Thank you for posting this.
