And blaze brighter in their descent
Shedding like leaves their luminous light
Falling into the realm of Poseidon’s trident

Glowing beneath the water
As they slowly sink
Their light becomes fainter
They become lost; like a drop of water in ink

Diving down to meet them
I am lost in the sea
One after another falls like a sparkling gem
I swim on blindly

Into the dark abyss
I have found my home
As the cool water pulls me down I’m in a state of bliss
My spirit will no longer roam

I close my eyes and sleep
My body falls deeper, and deeper still
No longer do I weep
No longer is my spirit ill

I am at peace at last
After all these years
Sorrows shadow upon my heart is no longer cast
There are no more tears

A coral reef offers itself as a bed
I am content
An aching warmth has spread
My soul is no longer in torment

But then I open my eyes
And awake to the nightmare of this existence
Wanting the sun to no longer brighten the skies
Loathing the light’s brilliance

I hide from the light
I want no part of this world
I long for the night
Where my dreams are unfurled

There is a deep sadness within the words. It begins so soft
and gentle, with a power of direction, but in the end there is
naught but a hopelessness and a pain that dreams do not last.

I love the metaphor you used. It was quite delightful and the imagery
was exceptional! Great post!!

Another write that captures the reader and takes them along on the journey. Great job.
