Grief

I regret each awaking minute of not hugging you with these arms,
or not taking the time to appreciate all your special charms. I regret each busy moment and each day that seems to few,
that I did not make the effort to spend more time with you.
I regret taking you for granted, thinking you would always be right here,
but now that things are different, I'm left with only tears.
I regret not telling you sooner of the effect you had on me,
the example you daily lived, is the person I want to be.
I regret not having the chance to say my last goodbye,
but I know that you went quickly to a better place in the sky.
I regret so many thing, too many I just can't change,
but I promise to try harder in the honor of your name.
I'll never erase these feelings and this I truly know,
for a single day without you continues to hurt me so.

Jeff, I can relate to this quite easily, but in respect to my Mom, who passed away at the early age of 43.. (which is a bit younger than I am now) Fortunately, it taught me a lot. This was a very heartfelt poem. May peace be with you always.
