I was the mistake you made
I was a waste of your time
I was a disappointment

no matter how good I was
no matter how smart I was
you never even saw me

for sixteen years we lived in the same house
you treated the dog better than your wife
first came your boy, and then your girl, where was I?
I was born first, she was second, and he was third

I have cried many nights because of what you said
how could you let me hear at five years old
you didn't even think I was yours

I graduated a year early, as a junior, just to get away from you
you didn't even know I was graduating, not that you cared to
now my sister is going to do the same, she no longer is your girl

you lied, you cheated, you did drugs, and your an alcoholic
and she took you back every single time
I will never understand why she loved you
do you remember the time you almost killed her?

I heard you cried when I didn't talk to you for fathers day
I'm sure that was a lie... much like everything else
I only went to dinner with you because they tricked me into it

but you know what
it's no longer my problem
because I don't care

After all this, I just want you to know
I hate you
you are the disappointment
I hope I never have to see you again
I do not claim you... I have no father
and when I have kids you are never ever going to know them

All my life you never cared
never claimed me as you own

seems you've been repressing this anger for a while, and this was a great way to xpress it. I'm glad u realized the flaws of ur dad, and this should make u not imitate him in the future. Parents arent perfect, and neither are children. There's lots of misunderstandings and what not, but we've got to make the best of it. Hope u and ur family can mend. take care

There is so much anger and pain here. Put those years behind you and move forward with your life. It is shorter than you think.

Firstly I do understand much of this.
Second, let go of the anger, forgive him for yourself not for him,
third, move forward, not out of anger but love for yourself make your way, he cannot take anything from you that you do not let him.

Heart breaking write I feel for you I truly do.
alcohol and drug abuse is a family disease many people do not get it, I DO

Very good write, but it is more prose than poetry. I feel your pain. I wrote a very similar poem and was told the same thing. After I reread my poem I agreed with the person's comment and rewrote it to make it more of a poem instead of a straight telling of what happened. Hope you can get past your anger, I had to to be able to move on with my life.

wow, I have been through some of this myself (not all of it though) but this really broke my heart reading it, My Dad's much the same with me, this is so well written, thanks for posting it
