With the cavalier stroll of your fist,
Only to look upon the face you foster.
You were not filed on the roster.

Was it your jaw that you exhumed
From under the beard you never groomed
That fooled me so I could not define
The fleshy jut behind that porcupine?

I searched long for quadrant with your face
But could not find one sneaking trace
Of the maverick I took for your style -
The blackest beard that did beguile.

So was each corresponding name
Frivolous, laconic, or tame.
I would not find at the end of your leash
A simple name, like some pastiche,

Like Roman numerals, a salute
To some distant old beloved coot,
Because in you I could not see
The propriety of a family tree.

No Sir, it is right to be unplanned.
The perimeter of some bed they manned
Waiting for you born with hair so wild,
But you were bald; they were beguiled.

This is a seriously original topic for a poem. Quite gothic but humourous also.

Favourite lines:

Was it your jaw that you exhumed
From under the beard you never groomed
That fooled me so I could not define
The fleshy jut behind that porcupine?

And I envy you for being able to use a rhyming scheme. When i try to use one I am not really v impressed by the results as I sound a bit glib.

cheers,
SC

You have intrigued me with your wit & pondering. Wonderful subject & the layers of inquisition are extremely clever. Also, I loved the turn at the ending toward whimsy & surprise & our innate infancy. peace. elle
