The anger growing through
He throws a fist of anger
The blow lands square and true

The ghost grabs her coat
Runs across the floor
Twists the knob
And slams the door

The blistering cold of winter
The roads all slicked with ice
I sometimes slip and stumble
Why tonight of all the winter nights?

I look up to see the headlights
I hear the squeal of brakes
My gaze stares through the window
See the surprise that’s on his face

He tried to turn the wheel
But his timing was too late
There wasn’t even a chance
Than he could get that car straight

The ghost lies in the snow
Feeling like her stomach has been wrung
Completely unaware
Of the damage that has been done

She goes to see the doctor
Concerned that she’s been hurt
He looks at her so sadly
And tell her the damage was not to her

A piece of herself
A baby that will never cry
Nine weeks of never to be seen beauty
A child that never got to live to die…

The ghost of a person
Takes a taxi home
Arriving there only to find
That ghosts only want to be alone
Her husband unaware
Yells at her from the next room
Words of hate and anger
Further darkening her gloom

Confused by her emotions he attacks her
Unleashing blow after blow
She tries to shield her pain
She tries to let him know

He ignores her every word
The ghost again runs out onto the road
Headlights quick approaching
The car never even slowed

The pain numbing her emotions
Losing grip on a harsh reality
A new pain filled morphine
Another roadside fatality

You captured every sense of my being here, striking a nerve or two along the journey of this write.
It is a well written verse, a verse very real and alive to me and so darn sad.

For the life of me, I will never understand why.
Why there is such violence in a relationship born of love...why the brutalized always seem to return to the scene of the crime. I have seen it happen with both genders again and again and I just don't get it. Love is not something that you get bruises as prizes!
Eh...enough soapboxing. Good read, this!
