The day that God let you come down
From heaven onto earthly ground
Must have been a wondrous day
But where I was, I can not say

I wish I had a tale to share……
But sadly no… I wasn’t there

I wasn’t there to hold you near
I wasn’t there to dry your tears
I wasn’t there to count your toes
Or kiss you gently on the nose.

Another heard your first sweet cry
As she herself had tears to dry
Her choice was made, her will was strong
She hoped and prayed it wasn’t wrong.

That choice brought you into my life
To keep you safe from pains and strife
The tears I cried were not of grief
But from sweet joy beyond belief

The first day I held you, I made a vow
As strong that day, as it is now
That since God himself sent you to me
I’d be the best Mother I could be….

I’ll be there to calm your fears
And wipe away the salty tears
I’ll be there to hold your hand
As we make footprints in the sand
I’ll love you as only a Mother can
And watch you grow, from boy to man.

As long as I have breath to breathe
These words, my son, you must believe
NEVER more will I say THIS
As others sit and reminisce
About the WHOS the WHENS and WHERES...

“I do not know, I wasn’t there”

It takes more than genes to make a good parent ... your son is a lucky boy to have found such a loving Mom :)
This is a beautifully written poem.
