the dry red plain,
Wedgetails circle on high.

A lone black figure
stands tall and proud
under a blazing sun, and clear blue sky.

What does he see
through those knowing eyes?
What does see-here today?

Is it the land
is it the trees?
"The spirit is callin'." I hear him say.

"This land it breaths
it talks to me."
he looks around and sighs.

"Spirit has become sad from
greed, alcohol and drugs."
He drops his head and cries.

For his people
come from a different place
One without modern care.

Now he sees them
drunk and reckless
round many a park bench chair.

He lives in the land
of the Southern Cross
a land of happiness and of wealth.

But has seen a people
murdered and gagged
from actions hidden by stealth.

"I hear it,
the spirit callin' me mate
I'll pass on it's saddend cry."

And together as
Australians
win or loose, we'll try.

To give you back
your dignity
your birth right as a mate.

And foster love
and respect for a people
who have lived under fear and hate.

Have you seen
the smiles of children?
Out on the outback plains.

Have you seen
miles of rivers
after the pouring outback rains?

Within these distant
images of a land
few of us have seen.

Layes a beauty
of waiting harmony
just the way it should have been.

I turn and walk
in perfect step
with a man who stands so tall.

From now on in
till the day I die
I will tell his strory to all.

Amazing story, and one I can identify with strongly. It brought me sadness and pride at how his land had changed, but he stayed the same and was still able to tune into the sounds and mood of the land. Beautiful write tt, I'm still wiping away the tears!
