Hoping for light to one day seep through.
I know that I must get out,
But I cannot even scream or shout.

I feel that my final days are near,
But who is this woman’s voice that I hear?
Her words bring joy to my heart.
“I love you” she tells me in the dark.

If only I could respond back.
And so I devised a plan.
I would wait for her arrival at three,
But that day she never came back to me.

Instead I felt her shake and tremble.
As she was hit by a barrage of blows to her temple.
“I cannot keep you any longer” she tells me as she bleeds.
I wanted to ask her why, but I could not speak.

Soon her pain became routine.
I could feel her body: bruised and beat.
One day she told me an important thing:
Her boyfriend kept on hitting her because she kept me.

It was then that I realized that she was my mother.
Who else would be able to bring me so much comfort?
And so I knew that I would meet her soon.
In just seven months I would finally leave my mother’s womb.

But those seven months were cut short;
When she brought me to the doctor’s office during month four.
It was then that I knew that I would not see my mother’s face,
Because she told me that she would leave me in a few days.

I have slept for four months inside my mother’s womb.
And soon it would be my mother’s turn to sleep too.
Because once the doctor pricked her skin with a syringe,
Her eyes sank downward like a wooden ship.

And then the lights in the room became distorted,
As the doctor began the abortion.
I was pried from my mother’s womb.
Only to die within the operating room. [comments] => 3 [counter] => 244 [topic] => 8 [informant] => Xbxg32000 [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 5 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => AmericanTragedy )
