Array ( [sid] => 141552 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => The Child Within [time] => 2008-04-13 07:56:35 [hometext] => Isn't there a child within you that still wants to do all the things parents tell their kids not to do ?.There is in me [bodytext] => I want to splash in puddles, wear no jacket in the rain
Write rude words in fresh fallen snow outside my neighbour's house
I'd like to scale the tallest tree or daub my sister's face
With marker pens that seem to take forever to remove

I want to say "it wasn't me!" and point to someone else
While looking hurt at accusations that I know are really true
I'd like to build a secret den and hide there all day long
At least until the roof fell in or storms blew it away

I want to eat icecream for breakfast, pizza when its cold
Make noises in the library when the world around is hushed
I'd like to press my nose to windows, make it like a pigs
Or try to stick myself to mirrors, suctioned by my lips

I want to lick the yoghurt lid no matter where I am
Or slurp my soup so loudly in a high class restaurant
I'd like to tap on doors and run before the owner came
Or stamp my feet and kick and scream in petulant display

As kids we try to grow up fast, as adults we stagnate
We lock away our childlike self, believe its purpose spent
But if, like me, your inner spirit keeps the seed of youth
Throw off the chains, renew the life, embrace the child within. Oh Steve...this is fantastic....I love the content.. It describe lots of things that I have thought of doing in my adult life.... Actually I have done a few.. This is my favourite of your poems I've read so far...
Thank you for causing the child within to resurface.... Jenni

*applauds*

Well said Steve! We do seem to lose a bit of that inner child
when we are swamped with bills and responsibilities of "adulthood".
Becoming a child again alleviates that, however briefly and this
is wonderful advice. Something more of us should do more often.

why, even just observing my children makes my heart a little
lighter! ^_^

Thanks for this.

~Breezy

If only we could retain that childlike innocence and exuberance....imagine what life would be like as an adult!

Miss you dear friend. xxx
