Slow Burn

Silhouettes of trees come into view
As the cold night air settles itself within my bones
The silence brings solace
Alone yet comforted in a world of black
Stars swirl in patterns artists wish they could dream
The taste of death on my lips gives a new appreciation of life
So calm so beautiful
Almost makes you believe in a god
It seems rare to me
Understanding what silence truly means
Nothingness speaks in volumes
Just listen
Perhaps the world would be happier
Thoughts of accompaniment yield wonder
Destined to be the only one to take it all in
To be the only one to understand
It strikes me with a sad happiness
Connect with souls long since past
Watch the stars slowly blink out
One by one
Until the last star in the night sky burns out
Do not lose hope

The line...."Nothingness speaks in volumes" is such a true line. I reallyy like this poem. I like the sadness, and I like the hope weaved in between. Nice job. |

Nice choice of words. It felt like I was being taken to peace. Beautiful. |
