it
catches up with you.

no matter
how well
you run the race,

it catches up with you.

and you’re left
standing alone,
blindfolded,
with your back
against the wall

as the guy
at the other end of the yard
starts counting down…

“Ready…”

the only thing that matters
as he continues
to count…

“Aim…”

the only thing in the world
that’s left to you
is to hold your head
high
and face
the

“Fire!”.

I'm sorry John .......... I know this is narrative prose and it really doesn't have to have a point per se......... but what is "It" and why would I face a firing squad for "it " catching up with me? Did I commit a crime, is this a deserter or a traitor .... is "it " the FBI, CIA, IRS,KGB, Police or homeland security. I can't even put this to any use in my life as maybe a metaphor.
Poem--A piece of writing characterized by its compact, powerful, concrete language; it usually presents truth, emotion, or beauty through rhythmic and orderly arrangement.
I know my poems suck eggs when I compare them to some of the masters but, you told one lady ......a poem has to have a beginning and an end and makes a point. or something to that affect. Gonna have to " 'splain this one lucy"

hi;
in answer to your question..."but what is "It" and why would I face a firing squad for "it " "...well, "it" is life, and even though in the end we all end up backed against the wall (dying), it's all about facing it with honour, grace and courage.
