Array ( [sid] => 139981 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Dark By Day By Light By Night [time] => 2008-01-23 22:51:16 [hometext] => I work for a Charity that provides suicide prevention programs for young people, when i started there i wasn't much better than the young people i was trying to save and this is one of the few long poems i have ever written about a down day back then [bodytext] => Stumble to the toilet
Light the day's first smoke
Think of money for a bit
Then cough and splutter and choke
And while the day begins to slide
And the birds begin to fly
Let the day go by

Slap some shoes on your feet
Take a swig of last night's beer
Walk to the bus stop down the street
And see the people stare
And now as time begins to fly
While the sun's high in the sky
Let the day go by

On the bus and off to work
Someone's got to pay the rent
Backseats where the losers lurk
Get off the bus when your ride is spent
Now your mind begins to fly
Your thoughts escape and float high
As you let the day go by

Get to work just on time
Set up for the day ahead
It is your job to stop suicide
But you'll be smoking till the day you're dead
Once again the day begins to slide
And now the birds no longer fly
But still you let the day go by

Finish work and light another smoke
It's dark and time to head for home
Then drink and drink until you choke
And collapse outside on a garden gnome
As the light begins to die
You may for once just know why
You had to let the day go by [comments] => 1 [counter] => 196 [topic] => 13 [informant] => Poetic_punk [notes] =>

I have no idea why no one has commented on this poem because it simply is wonderful, even if its subject matter is considerably darker.

i love the two lines

Then drink and drink until you choke
And collapse outside on a garden gnome

this so far is probably my favourite poem ive read that you have posted...

Gen xx

made me laugh, i know that probably wasnt the desired effect but sometimes even in our darkest moments we do things that are so silly when we look back on them...
