A Last Goodbye

A Last Goodbye

The times we talked things left unsaid, the future not be seen
those words yet to be spoken, of how it could have been
'Cause you was bein' you and I was bein' me
always did we hope, the years would set us free

Goin down this road of life, always out of sight
you, it seems was goin left while I was goin right
Neither could have taken, that first longing step
to utter their true feelings, to give it all what's left

For feelings will escape, as a thief into the night
leaving a small heart print, invisible to the light
Eluding all detection, of passion was the crime
what was truly your place, not knowing what was mine

If I could erase what's been and write it all anew
the words yet never spoken, the feelings how they grew
Hearts would speak, lips would move and utter not a sound
never knowing what was true, if love was ever found

But, we'll not live forever, this history to write
years go by .... words do fade, too soon one loses sight
All in all, time will tell but, time may tell a lie
this dream can't last forever, they'll be a last good-bye.
