We don't want to upset daddy again today
He's had a long day working for us
And doesn't want to come home to a fuss.

Hush now children, he's sleeping now.
She strokes him gently on his brow
Black marks around soulful eyes
Make up is not sufficient disguise.

Hush now children, he needs to eat
Get him some slippers for his feet.
Quietly, slowly we do our tasks
Anything that our mother asks.

Hush now children, go clear his plate
A quiet night at home would be great
Cowering our eyes as if to hide
Knowing we have no place for pride.

Hush now children, he's going out for a drink
We know what will happen, our hearts sink.
She sits in her chair quietly waiting
Nervously toying with her wedding ring.

Hush now children, he comes through the door
His coat comes off, thrown to the floor,
He staggers to his chair into which he slumps
He calls to our mother, our hearts thump.

Hush now children, it's time for your bed
Times like this fill us all with dread.
From our rooms we could hear it all begin
Covering our ears from this terrible sin.

Hush now children, she said as we cried
The ambulance men carried her gently inside,
Under flashing lights she was taken away,
We had all been expecting this terrible day.

Hush now children, as we cried by her bed
He didn't mean to do it, it was what I said,
It was my own fault I said the wrong thing,
Her frail body had taken quite a beating.

Hush now children, all will be fine
As I gently stroked her fine hairline.
I wanted to tell her but dare not say
The police have taken that bastard away.

Hush now children, everything is okay
Slowly but surely she was slipping away
We held her hands as she passed on
Hush now mother, the pain is gone. [comments] => 5 [counter] => 231 [topic] => 32 [informant] => kaycas [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 25 [ratings] => 5 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => SadPoetry )

This is heart wrenching. It's incredible writing.
Is this about your life or someone elses?
If it's your own I'm really sad for the loose. either way it's really great writing.
luv, huggs, prayer,
emy
