[bodytext] => the other day a friend of mine said that it would help book sales if i joined one of those online poetry sites and posted some poems. i thought i’d give it a try… i had nothing to lose. so, i found one and registered and posted four, five, six poems. after a couple of days i was getting the hang of it, but, soon learned that every time you post a poem it’s considered polite to read something by someone else and make a comment. i couldn’t do it. i have neither the time nor the inclination. besides, i had nothing good to say. so, gentleman that i am, i kept silent. eventually, i posted a note thanking everyone for their support, saying that it wasn’t working out and i wouldn’t be posting anymore. that night i got an e-mail from one of the women on the site. she tried to talk me into staying. it was a very nice letter, and i’m sure she’s a wonderful woman… someone’s mother or grandmother or something. her letter ended with these words: “i really do wish you’d change your mind and stay. your work shows promise. i’m sure that if you stick around, in no time at all you’ll be writing just like us.” i agree.
