Array ( [sid] => 138510 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Sing Like A Bird [time] => 2007-11-15 01:21:13 [hometext] => I wrote this in honor of Rowan Ford. She was from Cassville, Missouri. She was raped and murdered by her stepfather and his friend. Rowan was nine years old. [bodytext] =>
Can't stop thinking of you, little one.
Nine years old and tragically taken away, you were.
So sorry you left this world in such a cruel way.
I remember a little girl, your same age,
~~so your mind, maturity and thoughts are easily visible~~
she just lost her Dad. It's easy for me
to think of her and the hardships that she had.
Then I look at you and oh my god what
YOU had to go through...
It's too young, it's too much for a child to cope with.
Should I feel elated that you do not suffer now?
I am so ashamed if that feeling is wrong...
deemed to be so by a sane person.

Family friend exposed himself to me
baby sitter for a few hours
whilst parents were out.
Maybe I was ten, so scared
A friend turned quickly into a monster.
Cried, I did and ran away...
chased down and threatened never to tell..
So very frightened..
So young and fragile; naive to the world
and there you were a grown man,
trying to snatch a little girl.
It didn't go down like you wanted.
It didn't for Rowan either.

I wish you'd of spoken up, young one.
Someone should of read all the signs you were displaying.
Feeling powerless I am, as a woman and a mother
in a twisted world where sex has become like a disease.
Crying alligator tears wishing somehow
this all could have gone down differently for you,
for so many children every single solitary day.
I told, Rowan....I told my sister, and we told our Mother.
Let your death teach others...
If someone touches you, if someone hurts you
No matter what that creature says
Find someone you trust and tell.
Sing like a bird on a Spring morn...

Rest in peace, Rowan Ford

Editor's note: I just wanted to say if anyone is interested in this story just Google, Rowan Ford or the stepfather, David Spears. David and his friend confessed to the rape and murder. Yesterday they both entered not guilty pleas. They are being held without bail. Evidence has shown and more is likely to surface that Rowan was being molested by her stepfather. I can't stop thinking of what this child's final hours on Earth were like....my heart goes out to her, and all of the children who's lives are taken away so ruthlessly by a pedophile. Oh Laura .. I read your post in the forums and now this .. I am at such a
loss to find any words. Words enough to display the emotion I feel,
which is, in itself, so tormented. There is much searing through my
veins at the moment. I love this piece; how you related to Rowan and
all the emotion you poured into it, but the last few lines are what
made me tear up. And then I felt a resounding YES! well up inside
me. Sing like a bird. Absolutely perfect, sis.

Death is too good for those men and ANYONE that harms a child. They
disgust me!

peace, love and hugs

I have tears reading this. It makes ones heart turn to cold stone when these things happen.

You also feel her pain and share your story.
That is sad that that happened to you as well.

I agree in a world where sex has been made almost ugly...... by ugly people.

It hurts to know these things happen, and I too feel this so deeply.

I agree with Rox sing like a bird, god that hits me so hard.........

hugs
Michelle

A tragic dedication piece, Laura, all too reminiscent of earlier child rape-murders and predictive of many more to come. Until we get to the heart of why people do this, it will go on and on. In the meantime, I hope they are in a State with the death penalty - at least their exit will be less painful then hers.
