Once upon a long ago
Back when I was a King
I tasted of the finest wine
The best the vines could bring
But wine from vines can blur the lines
Between the good and sin
And frees the carnal nature of
The beast that lies within.

Once upon a long ago
Back when I was a Knight
I tasted of the wonder pills
That gave me will to fight
But will from pills is bad and kills
The strength that dwells inside
And leaves the spirit lifeless
Long before it's ever died

Once upon a long ago
Back when I was a man
I had my chance to conquer fate
But made too late my plans
And lately fate has filled my plate
With bitter herbs and bile
Which leaves a taste of deep regret
That haunts me all the while

It occured to me yesterday, friend, that the worst thing that could possibly ever happen to a person is that they someday find themselves looking back and concluding that their best days were behind them.

Ah, but... there is still time, poet. There is still time.

Refusing regret,

(recommending that we relish the finer moments of the past, wallow in the reality that is the present and look, always and ever, forward to even better days)

I very much enjoyed your poem , which seems to address an i mportant issue. Alcohol can free the carnel desires and cause us to sin. Then there are the side affects of pills. and the impact of what we eat.

Well done, it is good to read your poem

Will

you'll always be a man ... and as far as poetry is concerned; you'll always be a king ... but ya need to plant some seeds bud!
