That familiar, if not well liked, friend,
And I can’t stop thinking about you;
About your touch, your taste,
Your scent haunts these rooms,
Mocking me,
And my pain.
I’m just not good enough to love.
That’s it, isn’t it.
A statement not a question,
In no need of confirmation.
Yet you call when I ask you not to,
Leave messages, pleading,
Explaining the situation.
As if I didn’t already know.
You’re happy now,
And I’m not.
I sit, writing line after line,
Of self depreciating emotion,
Crying tears that I don’t want to come,
But don’t want to end.
I loved you for too little a time,
Could never really call you my own,
But it was there anyway,
When we’d lie together,
Bodies in a heaped and tangled mess,
I never thought of you as someone else’s.
Those moments could only ever belong to me.
And you.
You’d be gone before morning,
Too often I woke up alone,
Craving your arms,
To ease me into the day;
Instead I had an empty bed, and a memoir of love. Love can be a most formidable and merciless educator in one's life, to
often ready to dispence an abundance
of unexspected iornies we never counted
on. Nicely done and conveyed artisticaly
and emotionaly . . .
