Before I could walk I was well on my way,
Left on that bench, until the train arrived,
They knew exactly what they contrived.

I matured ever so slightly as I waited for the train,
I could now walk on my own with little strain,
I could also speak, if only a syllable at a time,
The words I uttered were nothing short of sublime.

The train screeched to a stop at the station,
I ran to the front with a great gestation,
“All aboard!” I heard screamed aloud,
As I boarded with the waves of the crowd.

I sat waiting for the rest of the passengers to find their seats,
I continued to mature as my heart took more significant beats,
The seat next to me remained vacant for quite a while,
Before a young man came and sat in a nonchalant style.

I was on my way; the train jerked off to a start,
I waved to the onlookers, who had yet to depart,
We left the station with a friendly display,
But we never again to see the light of day.

I strived to see my reflection in the glass,
But all I saw was scenery whizzing past,
So I turned to my companion on this long ride,
And he smiled a great smile so big and wide.

There was no formal introduction, just a shake of a hand,
Conversation flowed; it was much more than I had planned,
By the end of the ride, we knew each other well,
We didn’t want to part, but we must say farewell.

It was the end of my ride, the end of my fruitful bliss,
We had become so close; I knew no more than this,
I was forced off the train with a push and a shove,
Thrown into my own funeral to watch from above.

I watched as my parents wept and cried,
But smiled because I had the best ride,
People walked by and viewed me,
My flesh cold as they caressed my cheek.

I listened as my family made their speech,
A heartfelt and teary eyed eulogy from each,
But as I proceeded to looked around,
My one true love was nowhere to be found.

I cried for hours, I thought he would be there,
I had no idea that if I died he wouldn’t care,
As I threw around these ideas back and forth in my head,
A tap on the shoulder caused a single tear to be shed.

I knew deep down he’d never leave my side,
As he spoke to me softly, I melted inside,
“Sorry honey, my ride took longer than expected,
But you know how it goes,” he quickly ejected.

We looked down together at our last day above ground,
And watched as they lowered us both without a sound.
Together forever and always we stayed,
Even when his train was delayed.
