I’m listenin’ to Musiq’s “Teach Me”
My mind starts to wonder to a later date
Not one in particular
but definitely one in my future
What will I say to them…
To my children
To keep as much fear from’em
One can never know
But if I did, I think it’d go something like this

Cassidy
I foresee athletisism
I foresee rap city
I’d tell him to take it easy with the ladies
And that it’s okay to still be my baby
That mama doesn’t measure a man by
how many tears he can with hold,
but by how many he can
freely let flow
That girls might cheat on him
That girls might, will hurt him
but you NEVER put your hand on them
And when the world cast you out
I’ll always take you in

Peyton
I foresee…well, me
I foresee a slightly rebellious
misunderstood, music lover
I’d tell her is okay to trust
Not to wear her heart on her sleeve
Nor guard it so heavily
That, although, her confidence isn’t in me
the best advice is always where I’ll be
That eventhough boys may be able to
walk the walk and talk the talk,
you keep movin’ until there’s respect in both
And when you’ve become to much for the world
Remember, you’ll always have a place in mine

Jamile
I foresee a smart young man
And for some reason…his daddy’s eyes
I’d tell this one that he doesn’t have to
hide in books
That the world’s not in complete turmoil
and he should have a look
That it’s okay to like the popular girl
but she shouldn’t be the center of his world
That it’s okay to challenge the teacher
but not for giggles from her or anyone
that his existentialism is a lovable quality
because it accents his individuality
But when he’s out of that, he’ll still have me

Aaliyah
I foresee my baby
I foresee a light that can’t be defined
I’d tell her it’s okay to be upset
That happiness doesn’t necessarily make one happy
I’d tell her to use her big brothers
to help boyfriends make the right choices
To lift her voice
Rather in happiness, sorrow, or fear
I’d tell her that a woman’s priority
is a man’s option
Make sure you’re always priority
And that when they write you off as a n adult
remember…I made your boat and I say rather it’ll sink or float

lovely read, lots of 'knowing' in it, last line left me confused (did you mean either sink or float?)
thanx for sharing :-)

I love this!! Thank you for sharing it...
Now I'm wondering what I would have said to my unborn.
