Array ( [sid] => 137158 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Listen To The Children [time] => 2007-09-05 23:14:45 [hometext] => I am fortunate to work at a school with physically and mentally handicapped children...who turn me into a child every recess. They have taught me so much about life. For their strength and courage I write what they put in my heart. [bodytext] =>

To touch the mind of child is to regenerate your soul,
The complicated wisdoms of the mind and heart unfold.
The simplicity of joy you find will set the spirit free,
Splash about a wadding pool, run about the tree.

Giggle at the seagulls as they swoop to nab your fries,
Name the many shapes and things that clouds paint in your skies.
Blowing bubbles with a ring of hope,
Laugh at stinging eyes, filled with bubble soap.

To change the talk and understand the young,
No fear of there or that, freedom being sung.
Travel into curiousity,
Eyes of innocense and what they see.

Leave me skipping, laughing, dancing here.
With hearts of angels, words that have no fear.
I'll get back to my life of all I've learned,
When wisdom of the children make history pages turn. Beautiful. I love playing with my kids, especially with Jude, whom just turned 5. I feel like a big kid at heart and yes you are so right, we learn so much from kids. Lately I have found myself being a droid, a clone man, pirate, and race car driver...*smiles* (life is way too much fun and I just refuse to grow up) *wink*
Thanks for sharing this delightful piece. I too have worked with "challenged children"...there is no difference in a child's need for love, laughter and life. Children, however they may be, are simply delightful pieces of our future.
Peace, love and hugs,
Little sis

This is so beautiful, and so true.
Gary and I spent 6 years coaching special olympics and that I will say has been so rewarding. We are looking forward to getting back to it soon.

This poem brought everything beautiful about the kids out and our special kids are that indeed special.

You have once again been able to write a piece that touches the heart and shares the wisdom of our mind and soul. These children are very special and are truly a pleasure to work with. Excellent Job and a wonderful read.

There has been nothing so drastically, horrifiingly, life changingly, beautiful... that has happened to me, that compares with the love and adoration of my daughters... and their friends... and their friends' friends... and their friends' friends' friends... they can be a handfull at times... but they are kids... and we are ALL still learning, right ?

ND you couldn't have written a more beautiful and touching tribute, it brought tears to my eyes for thinking about it and for your warm heart. Your affection and appreciation for the children you work with shines through.
This was a lovely read, truly,

Dom
