Black as far as the eye can see.
The Moon is a coward,
He hides his face.

The vessel is not strong
I fear the worst.
The light leading home ... faded away
Like a star rubbed out of the dark sky
By the hand of God.

The chains holding the heavy anchor
They begin to strain against the tide
The anchor is not a blessing,
No. It's a curse.

I fear the worst,
The anchor could take the vessel.
The sea is black and she is angry
The cowards face, still hidden.

Nothing left to sustain.
The vessel sways. Stronger now.
The rain is a deterrent to moving ahead,
Keeping it here, in this God forsaken place.

The bondage is strong.
The anchor will drown it.
The depths frighten me now.
It's cold, but I feel nothing anymore.

Why is this vessel here?
Why is the anchor so embedded?
It was the most picturesque place,
Only a few short minutes of life,
Now darkness and rain engulf it.

What's left? I see the end rise.
The restraints are tortured by the anchors weight.
A loud snap and the vessel is let go.

The anchor gone, the weight seemingly lifted
Too little ... too late
The coward is smiling behind the darkness.

The vessel is not strong enough,
Not for a while now.
Its hull has been battered,
One time too many.

I hear the depth calling, moaning,
Like sirens of the deep,
The song is a dirge, not melodious,
The coward smiles harder, I know it.

The vessel is slipping under quickly,
One last thing to do now,
I smile as it goes under,
And I finally see his face,
He's not smiling, I was wrong,
One last tear falls from his eye
And finally all becomes calm and quite.
