[bodytext] => I’m on a bus, The baby in back of me wails. The mother shushes him. He kicks the back of my seat. The mother shushes him. The old man next to me is sleeping. He breathes in, And out. He breathes in. I can hear the air whistling through His dentures. Leaning against my window, Wishing, Dreaming, Dreaming dreams of yesteryear. I can still smell his cigarettes Mixed with the scent of gasoline. A smell that always reminds me of memories. Memories of riding in his beat-up Chevy. “Wanna ride?” he asked slowly in his western twang. Eyes glittering like the moon, A smile spread across his face. “OK” I said coolly. His A/C was broken, But it didn’t matter. The breeze from the dirty windows Would always be enough. Arizona is hot Especially in the summertime. “Where to?” he asked. “Anywhere!” I shouted full of glee. I loved playing these games with him. The first one to laugh lost the game. Laughing, I leaned over the seat And kissed him. Oh! I wish those days could last forever! But now, That old man is still snoring, Baby is still crying, And the smell of cigarettes and gasoline Is potent in the air. Still reminding me of The man I am leaving today. Boston is far from Arizona Especially in the wintertime.
