She was weighted down by all of her lies.
She was seduced by contemptuous passions,
And ensnared by sweet lullabies.
She knew he’d be here in a moment.
Common sense screamed that she should run.
But fear had become a new ritual.
And apprehension made her senses grow numb.
For over a year he’d abused her,
Threatening death if she told of her plight.
And now she regretted the awful hours,
When he slipped into her room late at night.
At first she tried to fight him.
At first she tried to run.
But eventually all hope left her.
And then the world became undone.
Stupidity had been her problem.
Lack of attention was also to blame.
She’d once wanted this man to notice her,
Now she cursed the day that she learned his name.
Dreaded footsteps sound in the stairwells.
His breathing is labored and fast.
And she decided with grim determination,
That this time when he raped her would be the last.
As he opened the door to her prison,
She took one last glance at the moon.
And she mourned the death of her innocence,
And wished that she hadn’t thrown it away so soon.
